GRADING SYSTEM

Motor skills/fitness

4 – The student exceeds age appropriate gross motor and fitness skills and has a strong desire to improve skills.  

3 – The student performs age appropriate gross motor and fitness skills and strives to improve skills.

2 – The student inconsistently performs age appropriate gross motor and fitness skills.

1 – The student has difficulty performing age appropriate gross motor and fitness skills.


A checklist of critical elements or “steps” will be used to determine skill competency. The following is a breakdown of what a student may receive based on his/her performance:  

4 – The student can perform all of the critical elements, AND can apply it to a small game or situation

3 – The student can perform most of the critical elements

2 – The student can perform some of the critical elements

1 – The student cannot perform the critical elements

An average score of gross motor and fitness skills is used to find the students overall motor skills/fitness grade.


Listens and follows directions

4 – Always listens and follows directions

3 – Almost always listens and follows directions

2 – Sometimes needs reminders to listen and follow directions

1 – Often needs reminders to listen and follow directions
